EU brings in harmonised transport-emissions calculations
From 1 June 2026, the European Union has applied a common methodology for calculating greenhouse-gas emissions from transport services. The approach is based on the international EN ISO 14083:2023 standard.
What changes
Companies that voluntarily disclose transport carbon-footprint data can use a comparable methodology for road, rail, sea and air transport. Calculations can cover the entire chain, from shipper to consignee.
Why this matters for logistics
Customers increasingly compare not only cost and delivery time but also the environmental performance of a route. A common methodology makes it easier to compare transport options correctly and prepare transparent reporting.
What to do now
Review the route, transport-mode, fuel and load data available in your supply chain. This will help prepare calculations and customer proposals where ESG reporting is required.
